PEOPLE COME AND GO BUT MEMORIES LAST FOREVER

Time Passes. Memories Fade. Feelings Change. People leave. But Hearts Never Forget……… Over the last 27 years many, many people have walked through the doors of the George Lodge, some on a weekly basis, others every two weeks and others maybe once a year.  These people become like your family, like a family get together that you look forward to, and like a family gathering where you catch up on their news and what they have been up to.  As George Lodge is a three generations family business it is very important to us to keep up to date with our guests.

Unfortunately it is a pity that we cannot have a photo of each and every guest so that we can keep the memory fresh and alive.  Unfortunately it is also true that some people never come back again as there are many options in George to choose from and whatever the reason might be it is always sad to lose a customer.

We therefor want to share some of our great memories over the last year with the groups that we had and a big big thank you to the guests that return to George Lodge time after time  and to the one’s that we have lost to other establishments, we miss you.

Take a walk with us through memory lane.  Definitely memories that will last a life time.

Tshatile Tshatile Akho Kubuyamva Conference

Luyanda is a very special lady, one day I was called to my reception area and there was this lady waiting to speak to me about a conference/meeting that they want to have at our conference centre, so I asked her what it was about and she told me they are a group of ladies who does not believe in getting divorced and that you must work on your marriage.  Little did I know that it was such a huge organization and such a lovely group of ladies and one thing is for sure, they love the men in their lives.  Watch the video while they on their way to invite their men into our conference facility……. although we unfortunately did not understand what they were singing, one thing stood out very clearly to us and that was that love is a multi-cultural language and that body language speaks a thousands words………a huge amount of respect for these ladies and wonderful to have had the opportunity to meet them and host their conference with us, a special day for them to remember.

JAN BRAAI TV SHOW ON KYKNET CHANEL 144 ON DSTV

A few months ago we were asked if we want to be part of the #tourdebraai initiative with the JanBraai team of Kyknet, we sponsored the rooms for Jan Braai and his crew.  The first visit was just to layout the route, accommodation etc for the event – see video below.

https://www.facebook.com/pg/GeorgeLodgeI

A few weeks ago Jan Braai, his crew and all the participants of the #tourdebraai stayed at the Lodge, the evening they all had a braai at our swimming pool, while we prepared the meat for them that was supplied by one of their sponsors and we supplied all the salads etc.

Herewith a few photos of the braai.  The next morning the tour started from the lodge, around the circle in York street and then off to Oudtshoorn…….We are still waiting for it to be broadcast on the TV, the next Tourdebraai is set to be in November 2017.

This is the #Tourdebraai with Jan Braai

Our Muslim Easter Weekend family – for the last three years these wonderful people booked out the lodge for the whole Easter Weekend.

It all started three years ago with a phone call that I received and the lady asked me what my rate would be for the entire lodge’s rooms for the whole Easter Weekend.  I gave her a quote and thought it would just be one of those quotes that you never get any feedback on.  Little did I know that these people would become like family to us.

The first year they arrived I thought, o my goodness are we up to meeting up with their standards and requirements.  They brought all their required halaal meats for breakfast and for their braais.  On the Friday evening they normally have an opening ceremony for the guys, they split up in a red and blue team, they are very competitive with their golf and there is constant competition between the two groups during the weekend.  They then have “boerewors braai” with some nice rolls and braised.  On the Saturday evening they normally go out as a group and on Sunday they have a braai for everybody and we “dress up” our conference venue for them to make it special.  While all the hubbies are playing golf, the ladies use our conference kitchen and prepare all the salads and delicious other dishes for the evening’s braai.   For breakfast we prepare the halaal meat and do a buffet of eggs, mushrooms, peppers, fruit salads, cereals etc.

By the end of the first year’s weekend it felt like we knew them our whole life.  It is now the third year that they visited us and unfortunately this year the ladies and kids did not come with, but it felt like a family reunion. Absolutely wonderful people to know.  Here are just a few photos of this year’s weekend.

And then there was the PRIME TIMERS – the sweeties people – according to their description ” RETIRED OR SEMI-RETIRED AND ENJOY SOCIAL DAYS OUT WITH LIKE MINDED PEOPLE, COME WITH FRIENDS, MAKE NEW FRIENDS, ENJOY AFFORDABLE LUNCHES, CONCERTS, PICNICS AND HAVE FUN.

These people reminded me so much of my grand parents and they are so still so full of life and just enjoying their retirement.  They stayed with us for three nights and we made dinner for them every evening.  They asked us if we have a communal area where they can get together every night as they like to enjoy something to drink before dinner. We shuffled our conference room around and made a lovely area for them to get together before dinner every evening.

While they were here one of the ladies celebrated her birthday, Paulene, the organizer of the group asked if we could do something special for the birthday lady as her kids wanted her to stay at home for her birthday, but she preferred to come with on the tour.   After dinner we brought out a cake that we had specially made for her, her facial expression was priceless and we would certainly not forget that.  We set the dinner tables for them differently every night to make it special for them.  Here are some of the photos of them enjoying their pre dinner drinks as well as the surprise moment.

SCHOOL SPORTS TOUR

Last but not least the school kids arrived for their sport tour. 17 girls and 25 boys.  Needless to say it was a busy week indeed as they had to have lunch packs everyday as well as dinner.  Luckily it was just in time for my son’s break before he started his training at chef school, so he could assist me with the preparation of  all the food.  It was definitely a different experience to our regular guests, true to the nature of kids on tour, they got up to mischief/pranks as kids normally do on these tours haha, but that is a story for another day.

CONFERENCE GUESTS

Just as with the accommodation side of the George Lodge we also meet new guests on a daily basis at the conferences that companies book at the George Lodge and just as with accommodation, we also have return guests on the conference side.  We do various types of functions in our conference centre and would like to share a few of these memories with you as well.
